Scriptwriting: Hiss Hiss Scratch Scratch

Project type

Scriptwriting

Date

November 2022

This is a script (made in Celtx), written by me, telling the story of two girls, where one girl is trying to get the other girl to overcome her fear of cats by unknowingly bringing her to a cat cafe. This was written entirely by myself, and I also came up with the concept and premise of the scenario.

Though this may seem unrelated to Game Development, I still wanted to showcase my scripts as I believe good dialogue is an important aspect of many games where storytelling is the focus, especially for genres such as Visual Novels.

Compared to my previous works where I wrote stories as a hobby or as part of the narrative for games I worked on, the main focus of scriptwriting is the dialogue; I had to learn a new style of writing that showed, not tell, character details and the story.

This posed an initial challenge to me as I tended to write in flowery language, but I now had to write in a more concise manner to fit the nature of a script, as well as the maximum page limit imposed by our lecturers.

For my first script, I believe I wrote the characters in a humorous, light-hearted manner that let readers see more about them while successfully adapting to a more concise style of writing as well as learning a new software used by Scriptwriters - Celtx
